Pre-Surgical Guidelines
Your pet has been scheduled for a surgical procedure.
The guidelines below will help minimize the inherent risks of anesthesia/sedation and make the day go more smoothly.
·Do not feed your pet prior to surgery. Generally, we ask you to stop feeding at 10pm the night before surgery. Several complications can develop if an animal is anesthetized on a full stomach due to the increased risk of vomiting. Vomiting can lead to choking or aspiration into the lungs.
·Water is always OK before surgery.
·Arrive for check-in ** which takes approximately 10 minutes ** between 7:00am and 8:00am.
Walk your Dogs before check in to allow them to pee & poop for a more comfortable stay. Poop bags are available at the check in cart.
·For the safety and well-being of all pets, dogs must be leashed and all cats must be in carriers. Box cat carriers are available for $10
·Please bring proof of Rabies Vaccination. If not current, a rabies vaccine will be given for $15.
·Pinellas County tags are available for $10
We recommend all dogs are current on their heartworm preventative and testing before surgery. Heartworm tests $15
We recommend a negative fecal test performed within the past year. Fecal test $15
·We suggest that all puppies and kittens have their initial distemper combo vaccine, if not one can be provided for $15.
·We recommend bathing & treating pets for fleas prior to surgery. **(bathing is prohibited for 2 weeks immediately after surgery). All pets must be free of external parasites or a flea and/or tick preventive will be used at an additional fee. $10 for Cats $15 for Dogs. Ticks on any pet $25
·This is an ideal time to have your pet microchipped. This is available for $25 when done during surgery, this includes registration.
·Feline Leukemia/AIDS tests are available for $25
·We recommend for pets over 6 years of age to have presurgical blood work done prior to surgery, at your regular vet's office.
We accept Cash, MC, Visa or Debit.
No Checks please!
Payment is due upon check in.
Please Walk your Dogs before dropping off,

Is your Pet already fixed? Extras are available: Tuesday thru Friday 9:30-12:30
1.For emergencies for your pet after hours, please call: TBVS in Largo (727) 531-5752 or FVS in Tampa (813) 933-8944
2.Keep the E-collar on at all times for 7 days after surgery. This barrier is necessary to prevent your pet from over-grooming, licking or chewing at the incision site.
3.Pets must be kept indoors after surgery. Restrict activity for the next seven (7) days - no running, jumping, or playing. Dogs must be leash-walked. No jumping into and out of vehicles or onto and off of furniture. Restrict interaction with other pets in the household.
4. Your pet may be sedated or groggy this evening. Sedation may last 24 hours.
5. Feed about ¼ of the amount of food that you normally feed, and small amounts of water, then resume to normal feeding tomorrow. No special snacks or treats on the day of surgery.
6. Look at incision a couple times a day over the next 7-10 days – for signs of infection (redness, swelling, drainage). If you see anything suspicious, please call us right away. Do not apply ointments or creams to the incision
7. Incisions are held together with sutures that dissolve on their own over the next 4 months. On top of that is a skin glue that dissolves over the next 7-10 days. It dissolves too quickly if it gets wet. No bathing, licking, or laying in the rain. Do not bathe or allow your pet to swim for 14 days after surgery.
8.If the incision becomes dirty, gently clean with diluted cool soapy water and a cotton ball or soft cloth. Pat dry. Do not scrub or attempt to remove adherent discharge from the incision. Dressings and ointments will delay healing.
